Virtual Permits are here!

Great news! Ave Maria University parking permits are now virtual. Instead of a physical permit, your license plate will serve as your parking permit. To avoid citations, please ensure your license plate and vehicle information are up to date on the parking portal.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did AMU change to virtual permits?

Virtual permits offer numerous benefits, including increased efficiency, sustainability, and cost saving. Students, staff, and faculty can immediately access their assigned parking lot upon purchasing their permit. This process is also more sustainable, as it eliminates the need for printing and mailing permits. Additionally, the Campus Safety and Security staff can more efficiently check for violations, ensuring only valid permit holders are parking on campus. This frees up more spaces for you!

How will enforcement officers know I purchased a permit?

Ensure your vehicle information is up to date when purchasing your permit, as our Safety and Security team uses License Plate Recognition (LPR) for enforcement on campus lots and roadways. All vehicles on the AMU campus are required to park "plate out.” Enforcement officers will check if the vehicle associated with your license plate is authorized to park on campus. If you haven’t purchased a permit and attempt to park on campus, you may receive a citation.

Can I still back into a parking spot?

All vehicles must park plate out to ensure the plate can be read by LPR cameras. Exceptions to this rule are vehicles parked in a disabled parking space and vehicles that display an official State-issued front license plate.

When will this new policy take effect?

Virtual permits will be in effect starting August 26, 2024. The “park-plate-out” policy will take effect September 1.

How will I purchase my permit?

Visit the parking portal, choose your permit type, and check out. You will receive email confirmation of your purchase and be cleared to park on campus immediately.

What if I get a new license plate or drive a different car to campus than the one that is on my account?

Any vehicle you drive to campus must have its license plate registered to your permit. To add a new plate, log into your parking account, click on "View Your Permits" and  "Add Vehicles to Your Permit".

What about daily visitor parking on the AMU campus?

Daily visitor parking is available in Lot H, accessible off of Clancy Ave. behind the Prince Building. Overnight parking in Lot H is prohibited without registration and approval from Campus Safety and Security. Visitors may also park along Ave Maria Blvd. and in the town circle.

Does this apply to disabled parking spots?

Virtual permits may still be required depending on the lot, but the “park-plate-out” policy does not apply to disabled parking locations on campus. To avoid fines, the legal handicap permit must be visible.
